Herbal steams are great tools that help support the immune system and respiratory tract. They are inexpensive, safe, and fun to put together with supplies you probably already have on hand. The herbs you can use are endless making steams customizable.
When you steep a plant in hot water it release the plants aromatic oils and beneficial compounds. These oils and the water vapor help moisten the respiratory tract.
Herbal Sinus Steam
Large bowl (heat safe)
½ gallon distilled water
1 tbsp dried eucalyptus leaves
1 tbsp dried rosemary leaves
1 tbsp dried peppermint leaves
1 tbsp dried fir or pine needles
1 tbsp dried lemon or orange peel
1 tbsp sea salt
Bring water to a boil and add to a large bowl. Add salt and stir to dissolve. Add herbs, stir, cover, and let steep 5-10 minutes. Cover your head with a towel and position your face over the bowl, use the towel like a tent to cover your face and hold steam in. Keep your eyes closed, face bowl 5-10 inches away from hot water, and breathe in the steam. Do this for about 10 minutes.
