Creating an Abundance Mindset

For the 2021 Almanac, I wrote an article on Manifesting (January in our 2020 Almanac). But it can be hard to manifest all of your dreams and desires if you don’t first have the right mindset. Going into manifesting with a scarcity mindset can prove challenging. It can act as an obstacle to the very things you want. If you have a perspective that there isn’t enough, or you don’t deserve the things you want, it will be a block.

Your true nature is abundance. Everything else is a lie. ~ Unknown

How does this quote make you feel? Sit with that for a moment and observe the feelings inside you when you read it. Does it bring up any physical feelings? Does it ring true, and feel like coming home? Do you feel yourself resisting? Does a scarcity mindset take over? Take some time to write down what this statement brings up. Ponder and answer these questions for yourself. This will be your starting point.

If the statement resonated with you, it would be fair to assume you don’t need any more work with a mindset of abundance, though everyone can benefit from a refresher. If it didn’t, that is where you will need to start. Let’s begin with a quote from Mahatma Gandhi: “The world has enough for everyone’s needs, but not enough for everyone’s greed.” This reminder can help you think about how to shift your perspective. Abundance does not always mean riches and gold or wealth beyond imagination. Abundance can be many things.

Abundance has a few different definitions. Some are about wealth, but the focus should be on this one: “A great supply; more than sufficient quantity,” or “an ample quantity.” It is having or feeling like you have more than enough. To have an abundance mindset is to believe you are enough, there is enough for you, and there is enough for everyone. You deserve to have abundance. You must challenge your own beliefs that there isn’t enough for you, that you aren’t deserving of having things, and that you aren’t good enough to have the things you need and want. See my article on EFT (December in our 2022 Almanac) for a tool on changing ingrained beliefs.

Once you recognize where your blocks are, you can start to shift. One of the first steps to shifting your perspective is finding gratitude for what you already have. You may already have an abundance of many things. Gratitude can be found in even the smallest things: a favorite song, clean water, a place to sleep, clothes, pets, food, or the self-work you have done. Write down all you are grateful for and journal in detail why you are thankful for them. Do this often and with heart. Make this a daily practice if you can.

Visualization is one of my favorite tools and one I often use. Abundance mindsets are no exception, and it’s a tool that should be employed for shifting. What does your perfect, abundant world look like to you? Be imaginative and uninhibited with how this looks. What does this world look like for you, for the people around you, and for the planet? Think about the bigger picture and what is needed for you to achieve abundance. What is required for all to thrive in this world?

Nothing happens without action. What actions do you need to take to make this world possible? What does this look like in your everyday life? If you want a more abundant financial future, that may mean saving and paying off debt now. If you want a life more abundant in quality connections, that may mean cutting off toxic relationships. Abundance may mean conservation, holding back, letting go, or saving.

Celebrate your victories, accomplishments, and your abundance, no matter how small they are. Make a big deal out of what you have, what you are getting, and what you are working towards. Give as much positive attention to them as possible. Get rid of the idea that you are bragging. It is okay to celebrate. An excellent way to change the perspective from bragging to celebrating is to ask yourself a few questions:

  • What can you do when you are your most abundant self?
  • What does abundance help you accomplish in the world?
  • How will you use your abundance to serve others and make an impact?
  • How will your abundance change the world?
  • Who will it change the world for?
  • When you have enough, who else will get enough as a result?
  • When one ecosystem is abundant, what other ecosystem becomes abundant?

I am a huge advocate for affirmations. Find affirmations for the kind of abundance you want in your life. Write out your favorite affirmations at least ten separate times per day or more while working on your mind shift. Use the following to help create your own:

  • I am abundant.
  • All of my thoughts are aligned with abundance.
  • I am open to receiving all the wealth life has to offer me.
  • I am open to receiving limitless abundance.
  • I am prosperous.
  • I am living an abundant life.
  • I have more than enough… time/money/love.
  • I have unlimited moments to have positive experiences with myself and those I love.
  • Abundance is a natural part of life.
  • There are endless possibilities.
  • There are endless right ways.
  • I am worthy.
  • I deserve to have enough.
  • I am enough.
  • Other people's abundance is my abundance.
  • There is enough.
  • I am worthy of what I desire.

With some practice and time, you can shift your mindset from scarcity to abundance!
