Meet The Thyroid Gland

The thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland located at the base of the neck, just below the Adam’s apple. It wraps around the trachea, with two lobes connected by a thin bridge of tissue called the isthmus. Despite its small size, the thyroid plays a critical role in regulating metabolism, growth, and energy production by producing essential hormones.

The thyroid gland is made up of follicular cells, which produce and store thyroid hormones, and parafollicular cells, which regulate calcium levels in the blood. It receives blood supply from the superior and inferior thyroid arteries, ensuring a steady flow of nutrients and oxygen.
